How to Do an SEO Audit

A complete SEO audit reveals what may be making it harder for customers to find and understand you — and what to improve first. This guide covers the essentials, then shows what Orion can automate from a live crawl.

1. Check your technical SEO foundation

Start with the basics: Is your site indexed? Do you have a sitemap.xml and robots.txt? Is SSL enabled? Are there crawl errors in Google Search Console? These issues block Google before it even reads your content.

2. Audit on-page SEO

Every page needs a unique title tag (50–60 chars), a meta description (120–160 chars), one H1, and clean URL structure. Missing or duplicate titles are a quick win — fix them first.

3. Map content to search intent

List the queries you want to rank for and which pages own them. Compare competitor pages covering the same topics to spot gaps in depth, structure, or freshness.

4. Check page experience

Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) are ranking signals. Run your site through PageSpeed Insights. Aim for LCP under 2.5s on mobile. Orion flags crawl-visible technical issues; use PSI for lab/field speed metrics.

5. Treat authority metrics carefully

Third-party DA, backlink counts, and traffic estimates require dedicated SEO databases. InsightSphere may show heuristic estimates for orientation — always verify with Search Console or a backlink tool before big bets.

6. Connect SEO findings to customer action

Use Orion to crawl a website you are authorized to assess and prioritise on-page and technical findings. Then connect each fix to the customer question, page experience, or offer it improves.

Turn your SEO findings into a clearer customer experience.
